Joe Absolom, the actor best known for playing Matthew Rose in EastEnders, has been spotted in Newcastle as filming gets under way for the new ITV drama Bad Blood. He visited La Casa Delicatessen in the Grainger Market on Monday, where staff shared a photo of him on social media.
Filming for Bad Blood in Newcastle
As reported by ChronicleLive last week, cameras are rolling on Bad Blood, the new ITV drama from the producers behind BBC's Line of Duty. The series focuses on the infected blood scandal of the 1970s to early 1990s, which saw more than 30,000 people given contaminated blood products and resulted in over 3,000 deaths.
Cast and crew were spotted shooting scenes at Newcastle Civic Centre on Monday morning, with props including a red phone box seen on location. Joe, who stars alongside Iain Glen from Game of Thrones and Susan Lynch from Happy Valley, was not seen filming but is in the city and ready to work.
Star's Grainger Market visit
Staff at La Casa Delicatessen, a Spanish deli and wine shop popular with shoppers, shared a photo of Joe on Monday evening. They wrote: "A very warm welcome to Mr Joe Absolom and guest today who joined us for a glass of Puente de Rus Moravio Rose (Joe’s choice) and a Tempranillo and both very highly complemented our wine."
Joe, who has also appeared in The Bay and Emmerdale, remains best known for his role as Matthew Rose in EastEnders, a storyline that saw fans demand justice for the character, who was eventually released.
His visit came days after the Grainger Market hosted a catwalk event as part of the British Fashion Council's Fashion Britain programme, featuring Newcastle designer Lamin Gibba.
