EastEnders fans can expect a season of high drama this Autumn, with executive producer Ben Wadey teasing shock returns, heartbreaking twists, and major announcements. Confirmed comebacks include Sean Slater, alongside Linda Carter's children Lee and Nancy, with a DNA revelation for Denise Fox and a significant development for Eve and Suki also on the horizon.
Sean Slater's chaotic return
Rob Kazinsky is reprising his role as Sean Slater, returning to Albert Square 20 years after his first appearance. Wadey described Sean as a character who "promises chaos and energy and unpredictability," noting his complex connections with the Slater clan, Amy Mitchell, and the Branning brothers.
"We're really interested in who is Sean at this age? Seeing him as a 40 year old man but not growing up too much because you still want the final classic Sean Slater," Wadey said. He confirmed Kazinsky has been filming for weeks, adding, "watching some of those early scenes... 'okay, Sean's back. This is good'."
Lee and Nancy Carter return
Linda Carter faces a shock when her children Lee and Nancy return to Walford, with Danny Hatchard and Maddy Hill reprising their roles. The reunion may not be smooth, and the reason for their return remains undisclosed.
Wadey acknowledged Kellie Bright's upcoming departure, saying, "losing her is such a big moment for the show and we wanted to make sure we see Linda at her best in her final few months." He promised a story that will make fans' jaws drop.
Denise Fox's DNA bombshell
Denise Fox learns she has a half-brother she never knew existed, leading to introductions with Darnell Larson Jr and his daughter Grace. Wadey called them "really joyous characters" who will be "sucked into" Walford's drama.
He hinted at powerful episodes ahead, advising, "have a box of tissues ready... Diane Parish and all the family just are extraordinary in their performance."
Eve and Suki announcement teased
Suki and Eve Panesar-Unwin have "something major coming up," according to Wadey, following their slow and realistic adoption storyline. He said, "They have something quite major coming up. We're going to do a little announcement in the coming weeks."
The Autumn will also build toward the New Year's Day episode, following January's flashforward instalment centred on Max Branning. Wadey teased a game of counting how many people Max can anger by then, promising "a lot going on."
