Country music icon Dolly Parton has died at the age of 80, leaving behind an estimated fortune of between $450 million and $650 million. The singer's death was announced on 25 August 2026, with her relatives confirming the news in a video posted on social media by her nephew, assuring fans that she "died peacefully in Nashville."
A Fortune Built Over Seven Decades
The vast wealth was accumulated through her music career, acting, songwriting, Hollywood film productions and numerous business ventures. Parton's career as a country performer began in the 1960s, during which she achieved 41 top-10 country albums and 25 No.1 hit singles. Her solo career saw her sell over 100 million albums, not including her work on duets and collaborations.
This tally does not include songs she wrote for other artists. Whitney Houston's rendition of "I Will Always Love You" allegedly earned the country legend $20 million alone, after it became the biggest-selling single of all time by a female performer.
Film, Fragrance and Dollywood
Parton appeared in films such as 9 to 5 and Steel Magnolias. She later moved into film production, founding Sandollar Productions in 1986 with long-time business associate Sandy Gallin. The company was responsible for films including Father of the Bride, Fly Away Home and the 1992 film Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Beyond entertainment, Parton expanded into cosmetics with her perfume line Scent From Above, partnered with baking company Duncan Hines on a collection of baking mixes, and opened the East Tennessee theme park Dollywood.
