Fans across the United States came out in droves to celebrate the life of Dolly Parton after the musician and philanthropist died at age 80 on Tuesday.
Nationwide Tributes
The US flag was lowered to half-staff to honor Parton at the White House in Washington DC, and flags were also lowered around the Washington Monument. In her hometown of Sevierville, Tennessee, flags flew at half-staff, and fans paid tribute at her statue on the lawn at the Sevier county courthouse.
At the Hollywood Walk of Fame in California, a fan held a customized license plate in remembrance at Parton's star, and a wand with a star was placed over it. In Costa Mesa, California, a woman took a photo at a mural of Parton.
Memorials and Messages
The Empire State Building in New York City celebrated Parton's life by illuminating in pink at 9.25pm, a nod to her movie 9 to 5. The marquee of the Castro Theater in San Francisco honored Parton, and fans gathered at Harvey Milk Plaza in the Castro District.
In Nashville, Tennessee, a photo of Parton was displayed at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, and guests visited the Dolly Parton exhibit there. Fans paid tribute on the Music City Walk of Fame, and a tribute message was displayed on a roadside sign. Flags flew at half-staff on the Nashville metropolitan courthouse and the state capitol. A fan also visited a Dolly Parton mural in Nashville.
Local Celebrations
In Sevierville, fans took photos at the Wings Of Wander mural, and a coffee shop worker wore a shirt that read 'In a world full of Jolenes, be a Dolly'.
