Sally Dynevor has revealed she met an original Coronation Street cast member in Oldham long before she joined the ITV soap herself. The actress, who has played Sally Metcalfe for more than 40 years, shared the memory while speaking to the Manchester Evening News and other press.

Dynevor, now 63, said she ran up to Pat Phoenix, who played Elsie Tanner, outside Oldham Town Hall when she was 13 and told her she wanted to be an actor. She said: "I ran up to her when I was 13 outside Oldham Town Hall and told her I wanted to be an actor. And just the thought of doing some scenes with her would have been amazing, and I missed her by a couple of months. It was such a shame."
Phoenix left Coronation Street in November before Dynevor started in January. Dynevor said she wished she had worked with Phoenix, as well as current cast members David Neilson and Ben Price.
Career on the cobbles
The Middleton-born actress arrived on the cobbles in 1986 and was originally signed for only two episodes. Asked whether she thought she would still be in the show more than four decades later, she said: "Absolutely not. I really, genuinely was very, very happy with the two episodes I was given at the very beginning."
She added: "If I'd known that 40 years later, I would still be here and enjoying it as much as I did on the very first day, I would never have believed it. I'm still loving it."
