Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd has shared a sweet update about his baby daughter Constance on his podcast, On The Sofa, which he co-hosts with Ben Price and Colson Smith. The actor and his wife Hanni welcomed Constance Ita on June 26, and have been keeping fans updated through the podcast.
Swimming update and wardrobe malfunction
Jack discussed Constance's latest swimming trip, revealing that she was dunked underwater. Ben explained that babies have reflexes that naturally block their airways and slow their heart rates when underwater, but noted: 'I think you have to do it when they're roughly newborn, but obviously she's not newborn now, she's three months, so I think that ship has sailed.'
Jack then detailed a wardrobe malfunction that left Constance irritated. 'This is her second time of going, first time she liked it, second time, f***ing meltdown!' he said. 'So her legs looked a bit red, and I thought, why do her legs look so red? The costume's too small for her. She's in 0 to three months, and she's three months, so she's probably three to six. So, a couple of weeks ago, it probably fit her. I think her trunks were too tight, poor thing. So she's come out and she's screaming the house down by the swimming pool.'
Baby name discussions and paternity leave
In a previous episode, the trio discussed baby names before Constance was born. Jack revealed a humorous suggestion he had received: 'It was suggested, I actually thought it would be funny…David. David P Shepherd. Don't you think that would be f***ing brilliant? The balls, the ballsy-ness! Even better, David Jr.' Craig and Ben suggested the baby receive 'P' as a middle name, referencing Jack's stage name, and also suggested 'Davina' for a girl.
Jack also shared his approach to naming: 'You avoid picking baby names based on people you don't like. What you do is when you're picking names, you Google, you'll go French names, Italian names, something that's a bit, you know, European and posh. That's what we were thinking. Constance came up and it was probably the only one that we both agreed on.'
Jack recently returned to the ITV soap after paternity leave, during which he had his third hair transplant. 'I could see it, I could see it further back in the middle. I could see it going in,' he said. 'So it was sort of act now while I could and I had a bit of time off for the baby, so it was perfect.'
Now back on screen, Jack's character David Platt is embroiled in a silent war waged by Jodie Ramsey (Olivia Frances-Brown) against her sister and David's wife Shona (Julia Goulding). With a gun hidden in the Platt house, the showdown between the sisters is set to explode, and someone is confirmed to be on the receiving end of a bullet.
