Dick Whittington will be the pantomime at Carmarthen's Lyric Theatre this Christmas, with comedian and podcaster Elis James returning in a special role. The production runs from December 10 to December 28.
Cast and creative team
Carmarthenshire Theatres promises a production “packed with family fun, spectacular costumes, dazzling musical numbers, and featuring one of the country's finest pantomime dames”. The same production team entertained families last Christmas with Snow White, and much of the same cast is returning.
Elis James, the comedian, podcaster, and BBC radio host, will appear as the Spirit of the Bells, delivering witticisms from a giant screen above the stage, as he did last year as the Spirit of the Mirror. Fellow Carmarthen native Steve Elias will once again take on the role of the pantomime dame, fresh from being nominated for a UK Pantomime Awards gong for his turn last year.

S4C presenter Gareth Elis, who took part in the 2023 production of Jack and the Beanstalk, is back as the story’s hero, Dick Whittington. The rest of the cast includes Alice Mayer as Alice Fitzwarren, Shaun McGregor as Twm the Cat, and Alexandra George as the villainous Queen Rat.
The ‘loveable rogue’ character will be played by Nathan Guy, who made audiences laugh last year as Jingles the Jester. According to Carmarthenshire Theatres, this year’s panto is set to be “an unforgettable festive treat filled with laughter, audience participation, and a touch of Welsh magic”.

Dick Whittington is at the Lyric Theatre, in King Street in the centre of Carmarthen, between December 10 and December 28, with tickets starting from £14.50. Shows will include relaxed performances, BSL-signed performances, and school performances.
