BTS Return to London Prove Best Boyband on Planet

BTS returned to London on Monday for two sold-out gigs at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, marking their first UK performances in seven years. The septet—Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook—delivered a two-and-a-half-hour, three-act extravaganza that left fans screaming from start to finish.

Fan Frenzy and Album Success

Outside the stadium, fans bedecked in glitter and BTS-branded glowsticks, which cost £65 each, created an electric atmosphere. 'My heart is palpitating,' one fan clamoured. 'Same, I can’t control myself,' her friend replied. The London pitstop is part of a sold-out 88-date world tour for their album Arirang, which sold a mesmerising 3.98 million copies on the first day of its release. It was their first music in nearly four years, after the group completed South Korea’s mandatory military service.

Concert Experience

The band opted for an in-the-round set-up in the pitch centre, with four prongs extending into the crowd so everyone could get close. During 'Idol', BTS led their dance troupe in a flag-touting parade around the touchline, giving fans at the back front-row seats. The set list was largely Arirang tracks, which sounded phenomenal live with bass and energy. The septet relied less on slick, synchronised choreography and more on a 50-strong dance horde, lasers, popping fireworks, and pyrotechnics. Each flame felt like an oven being opened, creating a blaze of glory.

Stage Presence and New Material

Most of the group is in their thirties now, and they seemed less excitable performing older bubbly tracks like 'Butter' and 'Dynamite'. Their stage presence and the 360 set-up suited the hip-hop-focused new material better, with clattering beats and swaggering lyrics. A standout moment came with the lead single 'SWIM', where dancers bounced under a gossamer fabric tent to create waves—a gorgeous less-is-more approach.

Homages and Reflections

The concert was filled with homages to their Korean identity and interludes for each member to speak to fans, sometimes via translator. Band leader RM reflected, 'There was Covid and there was military and now we’re here in 2026.' Jimin praised how 'hot' the ARMY looked, cueing wild screams.

ARMY Phenomenon

The ARMY’s energy matched the band’s. Fans scream-sang lyrics, often drowning out the tracks. When BTS asked who attended their 2019 Wembley gig, innumerable shrieks and waved hands responded. The night ended gently with a seated performance of 'Please' and 'Into The Sun' on the rotating central stage. RM urged fans to stay to the very end, and very few left early.
