David Beckham trademarks rose named after him following Brooklyn's 'Brand Beckham' claim
Beckham trademarks Harper's rose after Brooklyn's brand claim

David Beckham has applied to trademark the pale blush-white rose that daughter Harper gifted him for his 50th birthday.

The former footballer, now 51, unveiled the fragrant flower called 'Sir David Beckham' at the Chelsea Flower Show in May, before it was commercially released months later.

Trademark application through DB Ventures

David has now applied to have the name of the flower trademarked through his company DB Ventures, ensuring that no one else can copy it and that it can continue to be sold in garden centres nationwide.

The rose was created by luxury flower breeders David Austin Roses after Harper came up with the idea as a teenager, wanting to find a unique way of honouring her father.

Charity donation from rose sales

When he introduced the rose at Chelsea, David said: "Gardening brings people together across generations and gives so much pleasure. To be part of something that celebrates that, and the heritage of the English rose, feels very meaningful to me."

It is currently sold for £3.80, with £2.50 donated to The King's Foundation charity, which was set up by then Prince Charles in 1990 and which David is a proud ambassador of.

An insider told The Mail on Sunday that trademarking the rose is part of the official process to protect it and means it can be licensed and sold without any issues, earning as much as possible for The King's Foundation.

Family already familiar with trademarking

Trademarking is something the Beckham family are already familiar with, with Victoria fiercely protective of 'Brand Beckham' and famously trademarking her kids Brooklyn, Harper, Cruz and Romeo's names.

The 'Brand Beckham' reputation was one of the reasons Brooklyn listed in his bombshell statement explaining why he is distancing himself from his parents. He wrote: "Brand Beckham comes first. Family 'love' is decided by how much you post on social media, or how quickly you drop everything to show up and pose for a family photo opp, even if it's at the expense of our professional obligations."
