BBC's Justin Webb pulled off air after falling ill on air

BBC Radio 4 presenter Justin Webb was pulled off air on Tuesday (October 6) after falling ill while presenting the morning programme. The 65-year-old host opened the Today show alongside Anna Foster for the 6am broadcast, but his voice sounded strained from the start.

Apologies for coughing on air

At the beginning of the programme, Webb apologised several times for coughing on air and struggling to finish his sentences. After Foster introduced the next segment, Webb read the headlines and said "excuse me" within seconds as he continued to clear his throat.

He spoke again a few minutes later to introduce Simon King's weather forecast and later to discuss the Daily Mirror headlines and quiz BBC News journalist Simon Atkinson on questions over Open A's breach of Australian government websites earlier this year.

Co-host's update to listeners

But 40 minutes into the show, Foster issued an update to listeners, revealing that her co-host had been taken off the air to rest his voice.

This is a breaking story, and the Express Showbiz team will be updating this story with the latest information as soon as it is received.
