The BBC has announced a special episode of its series Remembers to mark the 25th anniversary of the iconic British comedy The Office. The episode will reunite two of the show's beloved stars, Mackenzie Crook and Martin Freeman, who played Gareth Keenan and Tim Canterbury respectively.
Reunion Details
The episode, titled Mackenzie Crook and Martin Freeman Remember...The Office, will air on Wednesday, July 8 at 10pm on BBC Two and iPlayer. According to the BBC, the pair will "look back at the groundbreaking series, sharing personal memories and behind the scenes stories."
A synopsis from the broadcaster reveals: "It’s been more than 15 years since the pair last laid eyes on each other, but the ground-breaking comedy's 25th anniversary has brought them together once again, sharing their memories of working, and laughing, alongside Ricky Gervais, co-writer Stephen Merchant, and their other leading office colleague Lucy Davis, who played the object of Tim's affections, Dawn."
Behind-the-Scenes Anecdotes
The synopsis promises a range of anecdotes, including how Martin Freeman initially auditioned to play Gareth, how Mackenzie Crook embraced one of TV's worst-ever haircuts, how Ricky Gervais came close to ruining filming on a daily basis, and what it was like to be at the heart of "Office-mania" when the show was at its peak. Additionally, the pair will share their views on the American version of the show and some of their personal favorite Wernham Hogg moments.
The Show's Legacy
The Office first aired in July 2001 and quickly became a massive hit. It ran for two series, followed by a Christmas special in 2003, and a one-off short in 2013. The show spawned a highly successful US adaptation starring Steve Carell and John Krasinski, which aired from 2005 to 2013 over nine series.
The reunion special is part of the BBC's Remembers series, which brings together cast members from classic shows to reflect on their experiences.
