BBC confirms Ann Droid series two with Diane Morgan statement

The BBC has confirmed that Bolton comedian Diane Morgan's series Ann Droid will return for a second series, following the success of its first run.

The six-part comedy follows Sue (Sue Johnston), a grieving widow who forms an unlikely friendship with Linda (Morgan), an outdated care robot. Linda causes plenty of chaos but also helps Sue rediscover a love for life.

Global success and record viewing figures

Premiering last month, Ann Droid quickly became a global hit. Clips have drawn millions of views, with audiences worldwide chanting 'SUE, SUE, SUE'. It became the biggest launch of a new BBC series for 16–34s across all genres since The Celebrity Traitors. On BBC iPlayer, episode one has grown beyond 28 days and now stands at 8.1 million views to date.

Cast and crew react to renewal

Diane Morgan said in a statement: “The response to Ann Droid has been so incredible. We’re all totally blown away. I’m really looking forward to not blinking, needing physio and hearing Cotton Eye Joe on repeat.”

Sue Johnston added: “I am so unbelievably happy that we are to do another series! Great script, great cast, great crew. The reaction from the public has been wonderful. Even my doctor called me Sue, Sue, Sue this morning! Everyone has been asking if there will be more and now we can tell them! Yippee.”

BBC Comedy boss praises the show

Emma Lawson, Interim Director of BBC Comedy, said: “We’re delighted to be bringing Ann Droid back for a second series. Diane and Sarah have created such a warm, relatable, and uniquely funny comedy that audiences in their millions have fallen in love with.

“Alongside the brilliant team at Boffola and Witchcraft Industries, they’ve given us something truly distinctive, and Linda and Sue Sue Sue have quickly become two of comedy’s most lovable characters. We’re thrilled that we will all get to spend more time with them!”

No release date has been confirmed yet for the second series.
