During his report, Ferris announced Knight's death and paid tribute to the former goalkeeper.
Knight spent 22 years at Fratton Park, making 801 appearances between 1978 and 2000 - a record for a goalkeeper at a single English club. Portsmouth fans nicknamed him The Legend. After retiring, he became a coach and ambassador for the club.

"With all these players moving teams, how fitting this morning that we can pay tribute to Alan Knight, a true one-club man, who has passed away at the age of 65," Hugh shared. "The goalkeeper played more than 800 times for Portsmouth, a record for a player in his position at any one English club. He appeared at Fratton Park in four different decades and was nicknamed the legend." The presenter concluded: "Knight was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2024." Clips of Knight's career were played on screen as the report rounded off.
Portsmouth FC shared a moving statement, which read: "The word legend is often overused in football, but the fact that Alan was still known as The Legend at Pompey more than 20 years after hanging up his gloves speaks volumes. He will be sadly missed by the Fratton faithful, team-mates and all of us at the club who knew and loved him. Our thoughts are with Alan's wife Heather, his daughters Jade and Rebekah and all his family and friends at this incredibly sad time. Rest in peace, The Legend."
