Paul Thomas Anderson's 'One Battle After Another' and Ryan Coogler's 'Sinners' have dominated the 2026 BAFTA Film Awards nominations, announced on Tuesday. 'One Battle After Another' leads with 14 nominations, including Best Film, Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay. This haul is the second-highest in BAFTA history, behind Richard Attenborough's 'Gandhi' which received 16 in 1983.
'Sinners' follows closely with 13 nominations, including Best Director and Best Original Screenplay for Coogler. Michael B. Jordan earned his first BAFTA nomination in the Best Actor category, while Wunmi Mosaku is nominated for Best Actress. Both films are distributed by Warner Bros.
'Hamnet' and 'Marty Supreme' each received 11 nominations, with Paul Mescal and Timothée Chalamet competing for Best Actor, and Chloé Zhao and Josh Safdie nominated for Best Director. 'Frankenstein' and 'Sentimental Value' both secured eight nominations, while 'Bugonia' and the surprise British hit 'I Swear' earned five each.
British titles 'The Ballad of Wallis Island' and 'Pillion' received three nominations each. Among the performance categories, eight actors are first-time nominees, including Jordan, Robert Aramayo, Odessa A'zion, Rose Byrne, Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas, Stellan Skarsgård, Teyana Taylor, and Chase Infiniti. Infiniti is also nominated for the BAFTA Rising Star Award.
In the Best Director category, Coogler and Safdie are first-time nominees. The 2026 BAFTA Film Awards ceremony will take place on 22 February.
