Alison Hammond has addressed speculation surrounding her 11-stone weight loss, saying she is “bored” of the constant questions about it. The Great British Bake Off presenter, who slimmed down over five years, rejected claims that she “cheated” by using weight loss drugs.
The 51-year-old said the secret was simply eating healthily and weight training. “People are constantly talking about it, which I find really boring. I’m a big, beautiful, curvy girl. I’ve always been that way and I looked amazing when I was bigger as well,” she told the Mail on Sunday.
Reason for losing weight
Hammond explained that her decision to reduce her weight was driven by health concerns. “The only reason I decided to reduce my weight was because I was pre-diabetic and my mum was concerned. People’s bodies shouldn’t be up for discussion,” she added.
Her comments come weeks after she made a surprise remark about Ozempic, a prescription injection approved to treat type 2 diabetes that has a weight loss side effect. During an interview with The Times, she said: “There’s always room for cake, even with Ozempic.”
Fitness routine and health update
Hammond shed five stone after being diagnosed with pre-diabetes. She has been open about reaching her heaviest at 28 stone and temporarily having a gastric band fitted. She insisted the weight loss that followed was achieved through her own hard work, and she previously explained how she has three personal trainers who put her through her paces with Pilates, boxing, circuit training and weights as part of her weekly routine.
She has always maintained that she stayed away from weight loss medication and that the thought of taking drugs was “frightening” to her after hearing horror stories. Hammond also said she was still a size 20 and not at her ideal weight, but the important thing was that her diabetes was now in the optimum range.
Bake Off and celebrity interviews
The latest series of The Great British Bake Off is now out, and speaking to the Mail on Sunday, Hammond revealed her one complaint about her new colleague Nigella Lawson. “She calls me ‘my bride’. I’m like, You know I am in a relationship, sweetheart?’ Nigella’s got the full package: natural beauty, good with words, clever, well-read. But I still don’t want to marry her. If I have a TV husband, it’s Noel (Fielding),” she said.
She also said that the favourite celebs she has ever interviewed were Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling, because although she hadn’t watched the movie they were promoting, the A-listers still had “such a lovely time” during the discussion. The new series of The Great British Bake Off started on September 22 and is currently broadcasting on Channel 4.
