Adele is reportedly torn between her life in Los Angeles and her hometown of London as she returns to the UK to record new music after a two-year hiatus. The 38-year-old singer has been back in the capital and is rumoured to be working on new material at Church Studios in north London, collaborating with other artists.
Bittersweet Return to Roots
Since moving to Los Angeles in 2016, Adele has been happily engaged to American sports agent Rich Paul, 45. However, a source says being back in London has been bittersweet for the Tottenham-born star. “Adele’s torn because she lives two lives,” they claimed. “She lives in California, but she misses her hometown. She’s a down-to-earth home girl at heart and she gets very homesick and misses her family and old mates.”
Adele, who shares 13-year-old son Angelo with ex-husband Simon Konecki, owns several properties in the US. Her main home is a £46 million mansion in Los Angeles, purchased from actor Sylvester Stallone, which she shares with Paul and Angelo.
Why Adele Loves LA
Adele has previously cited the sunny weather in Los Angeles as a key reason for her move, saying, “I get really bad seasonal depression, so the weather is good for me. It is strange sometimes, because I’m very British.” She also enjoys the anonymity she finds in a city full of celebrities. “You get left alone. For anyone that has never been to LA, you assume it would be the opposite. But there are so many famous people here that they don’t waste their time,” she explained.
New Music Inspired by London
According to The Sun, Adele arrived in the UK early last month to prepare for a big musical comeback after a two-year hiatus. A source told the newspaper that reconnecting with her hometown is helping inspire her next record. “Adele has been living in LA for a decade now and although she loves it, her roots in London are very important to her,” they said. “People close to her have been encouraging her to reconnect with where she grew up for her new music, because they believe it will help inspire something different.”
While in the UK, Adele attended the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, wearing a McLaren T-shirt and a necklace that spelled out “Mummy”.
Happy Life with Rich Paul
Adele announced her engagement to Rich Paul during a concert in Munich in August 2024, telling a fan, “I can’t marry you – because I’m already getting married!” She has since referred to him as her husband publicly. A source said she has “never been happier”. “She’s the girl next door who’s had this amazing fame and talent, and is loved the world over. She never expected it. She loves her life with Rich, she’s never been happier and she wants this to work and be forever.”
The source added that Paul has enriched her life, opening her mind to new experiences. “He’s opened her mind to other stuff. She was all about singing, but now he’s opened so many different doors. She’s loving different sports and enjoying life and has a totally different view on things.”

Adele, who has described motherhood as “the greatest thing I ever did”, reportedly wants to expand her family. The source said the star would love to “settle down and have more children” with Paul. Speaking on Desert Island Discs, Adele told host Lauren Laverne, “I definitely would like a couple more kids. It would be wonderful if we can. If not, I have got Angelo. I just want to be happy.”
