Urmston Restaurant Örme Drops Sale Plans, Unveils New Concept

Restaurant Örme, a Michelin-recognised venue in Urmston, has reversed its plans to sell up and will instead relaunch with a new concept this summer. The owners, chef Jack Fields and wine director Rachel Roberts, will now lead the restaurant themselves, shifting away from tasting menus to a more relaxed sharing plates format.

New Direction for Örme

Originally opened in May 2023 on Church Road, Restaurant Örme quickly earned a spot in the Michelin Guide's round-up of favourite new restaurants, praised for its Nordic-inspired, modern British tasting menus. In February, the owners announced the restaurant would be sold, citing an 'unfeasible' economic climate, a decision that left loyal customers heartbroken. However, just four months later, the plans are off the table, and a major revamp is underway.

Seasonal Small Plates and New Menu

The new concept focuses on seasonal small plates intended for sharing, with dishes like salt 'n' vinegar scampi with curry mayo, smoked Lancashire cheese custard on fried bread with red onion jam, cured Cornish mackerel with roasted onion dressing and English peas, and spring lamb with sweet and sour mint and BBQ cavolo nero. Desserts include upside-down treacle tart with raspberries, lemon thyme, and ginger, and a strawberry, balsamic, and lime sundae. A special feasting menu featuring a chef's selection of seasonal dishes will also be available.

Refreshed Interior and Drinks

Set to reopen on July 1, the revamped format includes a refreshed interior and drinks offering, with a continued emphasis on local and seasonal ingredients. Chef director Jack Fields said: 'Our new menu allows us to collaborate closely with our suppliers and access highly seasonal produce with the freedom to change the dishes on a more frequent basis. It's a more paired back and comforting approach, but still highlights British ingredients using the classic techniques that Örme is built on.' Operations and wine director Rachel Roberts added: 'We are excited to be taking Örme in a new direction, deepening our roots in the local community. We've always seen this as an extension of our home, and we want guests to feel like they are invited in for tea. With our extended opening hours, we will be welcoming walk-ins and drinkers.'

Since its launch, Restaurant Örme has been consistently recognised by the Michelin Guide, which highlights its 'pleasantly welcoming quality' and dishes offering 'bold, vibrant flavours with a mix of the classic and the modern'. Bookings are now open online for the July 1 reopening and beyond at 218 Church Rd, Urmston, Manchester M41 9DX.
