A Welsh city has stopped a Magic Mike-inspired strip show from performing this month amid concerns it is "too raunchy". Will Parfitt, 36, a male entertainer who stars in Magic Men, said he was heartbroken when the show was abruptly cancelled.
The show was scheduled to take place at Brangwyn Hall, Swansea, at the end of October. Parfitt said he learned of the cancellation when fans began messaging him asking why the event would not go ahead.
Show cancelled after concerns raised
Speaking about the situation, Parfitt said: "It's actually so upsetting. We are so frustrated about it. We only had two shows in Wales so it's frustrating." He added: "They told us they had just cancelled. They said the show was 'too raunchy'."
A spokesperson for Swansea Council said: "We've taken the decision not to go ahead with Saturday's Magic Men show at the Brangwyn Hall following concerns raised with us." The spokesperson added: "We're sorry for the disappointment this will cause. We've contacted everyone who bought tickets and they will receive a full refund."
Parfitt's disappointment for fans
Parfitt, who has millions of followers on social media, said he felt bad for fans who had booked hotels and planned to travel to Wales for the show. "That's the worst thing for me is we feel like we have let them down," he said. "We have done all we can to help them come to another show. We will try to upgrade them any way we can."
He also noted the cancellation was a blow to the performers, who are paid per show. Reflecting on previous shows in Wales, Parfitt said: "They are some of the best shows we have done. The show we did in North Wales was amazing."
The show, which started in Australia years ago, has grown into a large production that sells thousands of tickets and tours the world. Ticket holders for the cancelled Swansea show will receive a full refund.
