Troon, a seaside town roughly 45 minutes from Glasgow, offers a peaceful beach and exceptional fish and chips, making it an ideal spot for a warm summer day or evening.
Evening trip to Troon
Despite the scorching temperatures in Scotland recently, one visit to Troon stood out for the food. After work one evening, we drove to the town overlooking the Firth of Clyde. Although a thunderstorm had ended the heatwave, the sun broke through as we walked along the shoreline. It was quiet, with only a few people on the sand.
The Wee Hurrie
We finally ate at The Wee Hurrie, an award-winning chip shop on the harbour. The scampi was exceptionally fresh, with a light batter that didn't leave us feeling stuffed. The menu includes fritto misto, noodles, and lobster. It came with tartare sauce, lemon, salt, and vinegar. At £14.30, it was excellent value.
Evening stroll
After eating, we walked along the high street. By 7pm, many independent shops and cafés had closed, but pubs were busy. Had I not been driving, I would have stopped at Lido for cocktails. The outing was quick but pleasurable thanks to the food and evening sunshine.
