Pixie Lott is preparing for festival season this summer, and she is thoroughly enjoying every moment. The singer, who welcomed her second son with husband Oliver Cheshire in October, is busier than ever but maintains an undeniable zest for life, bringing her boys along for the ride.
Festival Season Excitement
“I get so excited for festivals because I think that’s where I feel the most at home out of any show,” Pixie told the Daily Express. “Everyone is there to have the best time, and when you’re buying a ticket to go to a festival, you’re there to have fun and release your inhibitions, as the Natasha Bedingfield song says.”
She performed at Ben & Jerry’s Sundaes in the Park Festival on Saturday, 13 June. Reflecting on the performance, she said: “This will be my first festival season with the two of them on the road, which I’m sure will come along with lots of fun and games! But I feel like we’re used to it now, we’re like seven and a half months in with the newer one. And yeah, I can’t even really remember what it was like before that, really.”
“I think my first show with the two of them was something like four weeks after I’d given birth. So we have done a fair few shows at the end of last year, and a couple this year.”
Children’s Awareness of Her Career
Asked if her children have any comprehension of her career as a musician, Pixie revealed that her eldest son, Bert, is certainly more aware. “I think Bert does, but it’s kind of all he knows. I think he knows that I’m a singer – I’m always singing all the time – and he learned my first single, ‘Mama Do’ really young.
“It’s funny because, obviously, he calls me mama,” Pixie explained. “But he also kind of says my full name when I do gigs and shows. Even the other day there was a picture of a blonde lady with smoky eyes, kind of like a Brigitte Bardot style, but it wasn’t her, and he pointed out and he said, ‘Oh, that’s…’ and he said my name. But I think he does see a difference between me as mama, and when I’m on the stage.”
Changes in the Music Industry
Prior to the release of her 2024 album, Encino, it had been a decade since Pixie released a studio album. In that time, she not only welcomed Bert but also made her foray into acting and appeared as a coach on all seven seasons of The Voice Kids.
Admitting that “the music business has changed so much” these days, Pixie feels it has shifted for the better, granting artists more “freedom” to put out new music. “People are releasing stuff all the time, and then seeing what connects with people on social media,” she mused. “I think it would be really cool to just keep putting new music out and not have a 10 year gap again.”
Future Aspirations
Declaring that she wants to “do it all,” Pixie reflected on her hopes for the future. “I want to keep putting out all the music I’ve been writing so that people can hear it and it doesn’t just sit there because I’ve loved writing new stuff recently,” she said.
“I’ve been using social media to just ask what people want to hear, which has been really cool, so I’m gonna follow that and react to the answers I get on polls and things like that. And acting, I definitely would love to do more, because I’ve gone into it a bit more recently, and learned so much.”
