Couple Remembered at Funeral in Donegal

Thomasina Tobin, 51, from Ireland, and Patrick Tobin, 48, from New Zealand, died in August at a villa they had rented in Cullera, near Valencia. Their bodies were tragically discovered by their teenage children, who raised the alarm.

Their deaths are believed to be accidental and a funeral service for the pair took place in Ballintra, County Donegal, today. The funeral heard the Tobins' sudden passing has left an "immeasurable void in the lives of all who loved them".

Tributes from the Canon

Rev Canon Patrick McGinn described the couple as welcoming and "so generous in every way", the Irish Mirror reports. He added both Mrs and Mr Tobin were "meticulous" and their children were "the most important part of their lives".

Several items from the couple's life together were brought up to the altar, including a photo of the couple and their children.

Canon McGinn said: "This represents the family that Paddy and Thomasina created together and how [the children] were at the heart of their lives, Paddy being a devoted father, Thomasina being a loving mum. They created a lovely home together in Greenwich."

Personal Memories Shared

Mrs Tobin resembled her late mother, "with grit, determination, a tenacious person and she would stick with things even though they were really hard. And yet it was all completed with huge softness, love and kindness".

Mr McGinn described Mr Tobin as "quick, adventurous and constantly kept everyone on their toes". He added that the father loved sports and had tried a number of them, including rugby, hockey, cricket and surfing, the Irish Times reports.

Mr McGinn said: "We are all so sad for you who are heartbroken today. We really don't know what to say. All we can do is huddle in grief around the remains of shattered dreams and what might have been. We can just hold you in our hearts today."

Background and Cause of Death

Mrs Tobin, who was originally from County Monaghan, worked as a quantity surveyor and was a senior executive with a project management consultancy in the construction industry, while Mr Tobin worked in the tech sector.

During today's funeral, Mrs Tobin's brother, John, thanked those who "have helped us along the way over the past number of weeks".

The couple were found dead by their children on August 24, with Spanish media reporting that post-mortem examinations showed both parents suffered fatal heart stoppages when they became trapped in the Jacuzzi.
