A new art exhibition at The Alnwick Garden showcases work by artists with Down's Syndrome, following summer workshops designed to empower adults supported by the Down's Syndrome North East (DSNE) charity.
A total of 37 artists took part in the workshops, and their work is now on display for the next fortnight. A private viewing took place on Saturday, with the exhibition continuing until October 23.
Charity partnership praised
Mark Brassell, chief executive at The Alnwick Garden, said: “We’re delighted to have teamed up with Down’s Syndrome North East (DSNE) to inspire this new exhibition. Here at The Alnwick Garden, our ethos has always been to create a garden for all, and supporting DSNE, providing the space and inspiration for the workshops and exhibition, is a great example of our mission in action.”
He added: “Working with local charities and organisations to use nature as a canvas for wellbeing, creativity and togetherness is core to what we do, and the exhibition embodies this focus. I’d encourage visitors to head to the Pavilion over the next few weeks to enjoy some truly inspiring artwork.”
Exhibition details and impact
The artwork will be displayed in the Alnwick Garden's pavilion between 10am and 5pm each day.
A spokesperson for DSNE said: “This exhibition is a collection of art work created by our adult members this year. The art workshops allow our members to develop their creative skills and develop confidence, independence, collaboration and friendships. We are very proud to be able to share their achievements along with promoting awareness of Down’s syndrome and our charity with the wider public.”
