In Madrid, Spain, housing activists staged a sit-down protest outside apartments from which an 87-year-old disabled woman, Maricarmen, faced eviction after developers bought the block in which she had lived since childhood. Members of the Madrid tenants' union barricaded the entrance to the apartments, facing off against Spanish riot police.
