CD Projekt will debut a proper trailer for The Witcher 3's final DLC expansion, Songs Of The Past, at Gamescom 2026. However, no updates for The Witcher 4 are expected at the event.
Gamescom 2026 details
Gamescom begins on Tuesday, August 25 with the Opening Night Live showcase hosted by Geoff Keighley, where multiple publishers will make new announcements. CD Projekt intends to show off Songs Of The Past during the showcase and also promises a 'guided presentation' at its booth from Wednesday, August 26 to Sunday, August 30. Public showcases will be available according to CD Projekt's website, but it is unclear if the DLC will be playable.
What we know about Songs Of The Past
CD Projekt announced the DLC expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt after months of rumours, 10 years after the last one. The expansion is named Songs Of The Past, with a 2027 release window, and promotional art confirms series protagonist Geralt will still be the lead character. It will only be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
No Witcher 4 at Gamescom
CD Projekt has said nothing about The Witcher 4 being at Gamescom, which is unsurprising as the game is still some way off from release. The earliest possible launch date is seen as late 2027, but it is much more likely to be 2028 or later. It is widely speculated that the new DLC serves as a bridge to The Witcher 4, which will see Geralt's adopted daughter Ciri take over as protagonist. Geralt will be 'involved' with The Witcher 4, possibly through short playable sequences.
Other Witcher projects
CD Projekt is also planning a full remake of the first Witcher game, announced in 2022, with no updates since. The remake is primarily handled by Fool's Theory, a separate Polish studio comprised of former CD Projekt staff, but seems on the backburner as the same studio assists with the Witcher 3 DLC. There is also a multiplayer spin-off known as Project Sirius and rumours of a separate free-to-play multiplayer game for PC and mobile.
The Witcher 3 has sold more than 65 million copies, making it one of the best-selling video games ever made.
