TikTok foodie Naveen Jaspal has gone viral after sharing a simple but effective way to open an Oxo stock cube, leaving many of her followers amazed. The tip, posted on her whatnaveats TikTok account, which has 200,000 followers, along with an additional 124,000 on Instagram, has sparked widespread discussion.
The Trick That Changed Everything
In the video, Jaspal demonstrates the method after a follower questioned what she was doing while making a chilli. Holding a sealed Oxo cube, she says: 'I'm just going to check that we do all know how to open up an Oxo stock cube.' She explains that someone had asked her 'what on earth are you doing' when she performed the trick, to which she replied: 'I'm opening it like a normal person.'
Jaspal then shows the steps: 'You get all four tabs on each side, and then you just softly push it out a little bit, so the packet becomes like that rather than a square. And then once you've softened it all out, I literally just rip the top, and look, it just crumbles out, and that stops you trying to crumble the stock cube in your fingers.'
The demonstration involves pulling out the four corners of the foil cube, gently crushing the cube inside the foil until it softens, then carefully ripping open the top so the crumbled cube falls into a waiting jug below.
Revelation for Followers
The tip was a revelation to many. One follower, Gon, commented: 'Does no one else just rip off the tin foil and bung the cube in the pot?' Another, Shadows, added: 'I rip the silver off in about 150 small pieces, then drop the cube into boiling water and stir for an eternity while mashing the clumps against the side of the measuring jug.' Ralph confirmed Shadows' method, saying: 'This is the proper way.'
Lahd admitted: 'We’re supposed to crumble up the cubes? I have never done that.' Kelly added: 'I was today years old.' Hannah was relieved to see confirmation after being questioned: 'I was told I was mad for doing it this way - thank you for showing the world I'm sane.'
Not All Cubes Are Equal
However, some followers noted that the trick may not work for all Oxo cubes. Sarah said: 'Does anyone else find the chicken Oxo cubes really hard to?' Angela agreed: 'Yes me, they are like bricks.' Kris recommended an alternative: 'Just put it in a cup with a little boiling water and leave it for 5 minutes. It will disintegrate.' Holly added: 'This doesn’t work when you only buy a box every 5 years… i have to use a hammer on mine.'
