Snoop Dogg Faces Backlash Over Comments on Same-Sex Couple in Pixar's Lightyear

Snoop Dogg has sparked controversy after expressing discomfort over a same-sex couple scene in Disney and Pixar's 2022 film Lightyear. During an appearance on the It's Giving podcast, the rapper said the scene left him "scared to go to the movies" because he struggled to answer his grandson's questions about homosexual relationships.

The film, a spin-off of the Toy Story franchise, features a montage showing Buzz Lightyear's best friend Alisha Hawthorne meeting, falling in love with, and marrying a female crew member named Kiko. The couple shares a brief kiss at their son's graduation. Snoop Dogg described his grandson asking, "How she have a baby with a woman?" and admitted he did not have an answer, saying, "It threw me for a loop."

The podcast initially removed the segment from the main episode but later re-uploaded it, claiming it was "mistakenly edited." Critics accused the show of intentional censorship. Viewers on YouTube pointed out the rapper's 2004 cameo in The L Word, a series about lesbian and bisexual women, questioning his stance.

Singer Boy George responded on X, formerly Twitter, writing, "You can't turn kids gay by helping them understand that some people are different. You are born gay, just like you are born black or anything else." Others expressed disappointment, with one user stating, "Snoop Dogg joining in on the 'We have to show that at this age?' discourse about LGBTQ+ content in kids’ media is so disappointing."
