EA has announced EA Sports FC 27 and revealed that Kylian Mbappé will be the cover star for the Ultimate Edition. A gameplay trailer is scheduled to debut on Thursday, July 23 at 5pm BST.
Mbappé replaces Ronaldo rumours
Despite earlier rumours that Cristiano Ronaldo would be the cover star, EA selected Mbappé, the Real Madrid forward and captain of France's national team. This marks Mbappé's first cover appearance for an EA Sports FC title, though he previously featured on three covers of EA's FIFA games before the rebranding.
Mbappé said: 'To be featured on the cover of an EA Sports FC title for the first time is a very special moment for me. It’s an honour to continue my long-term relationship with the franchise in its latest chapter, alongside the players who have shaped its history. I can’t wait for everyone to experience FC 27.'
EA praises Mbappé's achievements
Jeff Sharma, vice president of franchise strategy and marketing at EA Sports FC, added: 'Kylian’s achievements for both club and country have established him as one of the defining players of his generation. He embodies the ambition, creativity and global appeal that defines EA Sports FC today, and we’re proud to continue our partnership with him as he returns to lead EA Sports FC 27.'
Mbappé was the top scorer of the recent World Cup with 10 goals, earning his second Golden Boot award and becoming the first player to receive it twice. France finished fourth, losing to England in the semifinals. Spain won the tournament, which EA predicted by running simulations in EA Sports FC 26—the fifth consecutive correct prediction by EA's football games.
Standard edition cover still unknown
The cover star for the standard edition of EA Sports FC 27 has not been announced. Leaker DetectiveFUT, who previously claimed Ronaldo would be the Ultimate Edition cover star, suggested two possibilities: either England and Real Madrid player Jude Bellingham alongside French footballer Ousmane Dembélé, or a different Real Madrid player paired with someone from Barcelona.
