Former tennis player Laura Robson has joined the Commonwealth Games 2026 presenting team, taking on gymnastics coverage for TNT Sports in Glasgow.
The multi-sport event kicked off last week with King Charles at the Opening Ceremony. This year marks the first time since 1954 that the BBC is not broadcasting the Games, after being outbid. TNT Sports is the live TV partner, talkSPORT handles radio, HBO Max streams every event, and Channel 5 airs evening highlights hosted by Jeanette Kwakye.
Laura Robson's role and viewer reactions
Robson, who transitioned to sports broadcasting around 2018, previously worked as a tennis analyst for BBC and TNT. She is now presenting her first multi-sport event, hosting gymnastics from the Glasgow International Arena alongside legends Max Whitlock and Nile Wilson.
Some viewers expressed confusion on X (formerly Twitter) about a tennis presenter covering gymnastics. One wrote: "It would help if they had a presenter who actually understood gymnastics." Another added: "Nile is talking rings around Laura." A third said: "Laura Robson looks way out of her depth," while someone else noted: "This is Laura Robson, the ex professional tennis player/Olympic doubles medalist. Not sure why she's working on gymnastics though."
However, other viewers praised her. One commented: "I like Laura tbh and she is good on @SkySports." Another said: "She's been presenting the gymnastics at the Commonwealth Games and [is doing] really good again tbh." A third added: "One of the few commentators on there I recognise."
Gymnastics incident
The gymnastics coverage comes after English gymnast Gabriel Langton fell head first from three metres after missing his catch on the horizontal bar during the opening day. The 19-year-old has since been cleared of serious injury.
