The BBC's Gladiators is reportedly adding a new star to its lineup: bodybuilder Ahmad Rabus, who is tipped to take over the role of the fan-favourite Giant, according to The Sun.
New Gladiator 'The Emperor'
Rabus, who has 98k followers on social media, is known for sharing his fitness routine and toned physique. He was crowned Mr Universe in Italy in 2015 and offers regular coaching calls. A source told The Sun: 'Giant was one of the most popular Gladiators so bosses needed a big personality to take his place. They absolutely love Ahmad and think his show name The Emperor is iconic and will make a big impression with viewers. He is strong-minded and brilliant at getting into character.'
Cast shake-up
The reported addition comes after several Gladiators exited the show, including Giant (Jamie Bigg), Bionic (Matty Campbell), Athena (Karanjeet Kaur Bains), and Cyclone (Lystus Ebosele). Giant claims he was axed after sharing plans to go public with his former girlfriend, an OnlyFans creator. Bionic and Athena sustained injuries during filming, though Athena later said she's 'fitter than ever'. Cyclone released a statement hinting at behind-the-scenes issues.
Other additions and changes
The BBC has already officially announced World's Strongest Man winner Tom Stoltman as a new Gladiator, though his alter-ego name and costume are yet to be revealed. Stoltman said: 'This is a dream opportunity, and I'm incredibly proud to become a Gladiator. I've spent my life pushing myself to see what I can achieve, and joining this incredible show is the next challenge.'
Meanwhile, Celebrity Traitors star Joe Marler is reportedly in talks to join as a guest Gladiator, a first for the reboot. On Celebrity Gladiators, comedian Chris Ramsey is said to have dropped out due to injury, with Traitors winner Harry Clark stepping in at the last minute. An insider said: 'The audience where the show was being filmed at Sheffield Arena were enthralled by the turn of events and were thrilled when it was announced he was stepping in.'
