Epic Games is preparing to release a new season of content for Fortnite on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, iOS, Android and Nintendo Switch. Titled Override, the season focuses on video game crossovers featuring iconic characters.
Official artwork for Season 4 showcases characters that will appear either as part of the Battle Pass or as new and returning Item Shop skins. These include Sonic the Hedgehog, Mega Man, Joker, Sora, Crash Bandicoot, Geralt of Rivia, Ryu, Lara Croft and Master Chief.
Fortnite Chapter 7, Season 4 release date and downtime
Fortnite Chapter 7, Season 4 'Override' has an August 20 release date on consoles, PC and mobile. The content will be available after a period of server downtime, which begins at 7am BST UK time on August 20. That is 11pm PST on August 19, 2am EST in the US, and 8am CET for fans in Europe.
The downtime is expected to last 3-4 hours, meaning the game should be back online by 11am BST at the latest. Matchmaking will be disabled at 6.30am BST, so players need to log in before then for one final game. Fans can use the downtime to download and install the new update.
Fortnite Chapter 7, Season 4 Battle Pass and new features
Battle Pass owners will automatically unlock Sonic the Hedgehog, and can level up to obtain skins such as Kitty Wins, Phantom, Grace Crowne, Geno, Mali, Bastian and Wrixel. Wrixel appears to be a customisable character with over 1 million combinations.
Sonic's friend Tails is unlockable as a Sidekick with his own cosmetics. Emote transformations allow Sonic to turn into Super Sonic, and there are also launch week rewards. A recent Fortnite trailer shows new locations and gameplay features, including the Green Hill Zone joining the map, alongside Rings and speed boosters. There is also a Pac-Man island shaped like one of the game's Ghosts, a Jungle Lair, and an area that appears built by Doctor Robotnik.
