Demon Slayer Star Hints at Future After Final Films as Infinity Castle Hits $780m
Demon Slayer Star Teases Anime's Future After Final Films

The English voice behind the hero of one of the world's most popular anime series has hinted at what fans can expect as the story races towards its conclusion, while leaving the door open for a potential return. Zach Aguilar, who provides the voice for protagonist Tanjiro Kamado in the English dub, spoke exclusively about the future of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba following the monumental box office success of the latest film.

Infinity Castle's Blockbuster Success Sets Stage for Finale

The franchise's most recent cinematic offering, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - Infinity Castle, has proven to be a global phenomenon. Released in 2024, the film has soared to become the fifth highest-grossing movie of the year worldwide, pulling in a staggering $780 million (approximately £594 million) at the box office. This achievement cements the anime's transition from a beloved TV series, which began in 2019, into a bona fide cinematic powerhouse.

In the epic two-and-a-half-hour Infinity Castle, Tanjiro and his fellow demon slayers are drawn into a treacherous, ever-shifting labyrinth as they pursue the demonic source of all evil, Muzan Kibutsuji. The film is currently exclusive to cinemas but is expected to arrive on the Crunchyroll streaming platform, which distributes the series in the UK and internationally, in the near future.

An Emotional & Action-Packed Conclusion Awaits

While two final films are in development to complete the adaptation of Koyoharu Gotouge's original manga, Aguilar teased an intense and moving road ahead for fans. "I can't say too much about the future," he revealed, "[There's] a couple more films left still for the series as a whole."

As a dedicated reader of the source material, Aguilar promised that the upcoming instalments will deliver both spectacular action and deep emotion. "There are a lot of awesome fight scenes... It's a beautiful story. It just blew my mind reading it. I mean I cried, you know? I cried multiple times," he admitted.

He reserved particular praise for the work of animation studio Ufotable, confidently predicting they will "continue to crush it" with the remaining adaptations. The final arc, known to manga fans as Sunrise Countdown, is anticipated to feature in the concluding film, bringing the Infinity Castle saga to a close.

Could the Journey Continue Beyond the Manga's End?

The central question for many devotees is whether the anime could continue after the two planned films conclude the published story, which ended in the manga in 2020. Aguilar expressed a heartfelt openness to the idea.

"If they ever do anything else with my character, whatever it is, whether it's some kind of flashback or something that wasn't shown, obviously I would love to be a part of it," he stated. He reflected on the profound impact of being involved in the series, adding, "This franchise has been absolutely incredible... One day I'll tell my kids about this show."

However, he also noted the narrative finality of the source material, suggesting the planned ending "makes sense" and acts as "the cherry on top." With a characteristic note of uncertainty familiar to the anime industry, he concluded, "But I mean, who knows really with anime?"

For now, UK audiences can look forward to the emotional and visually stunning culmination of Tanjiro's quest when the final two films arrive, bringing one of modern animation's greatest success stories to its climax.
