Croxteth Park Miniature Railway reveals expansion plans

Croxteth Park Miniature Railway has announced a series of new additions and improvements rolling out until 2028. The family attraction will welcome two themed areas and an extension allowing two trains to operate daily, among other features.

Revival and reopening

Since November 2023, local Kevin Brown and a small group of volunteers have worked to reinstate the miniature railway that was unused in Croxteth Park for 15 years. Having cleared the track’s route and unearthed the rails, the volunteers found that 90% of the original track remains intact.

The attraction reopened in June 2024 with a special launch party featuring the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress as the first passengers aboard.

Plans for the future

Thanks to the continued support from the community and the local authority, the railway has announced a number of new features starting from next year.

Croxteth Park Miniature Railway said: "We’re thrilled to reveal some very exciting plans for the future of the railway."

"Thanks to the continued support of our amazing customers, volunteers, Croxteth Park and Liverpool City Council, we’ll be making some fantastic improvements over the next two years."

New attractions and extension

There will be two new themed areas of the railway, a new 'Drive Your Own Tram' kids' attraction and the construction of a railway extension, with the latter expected for completion in 2028.

The extension will create a longer train ride allowing the attraction to operate two trains daily. Croxteth Park Miniature Railway added: "This is just the beginning, and we can’t wait to take you along for the journey."

Originally built in 1981 and operational until 2009, it operates along its original route, complete with Diesel Locomotives and occasional Steam locomotives for special events. The train journey begins at Croxteth Hall Halt Station, winds through the scenic grounds of Croxteth Park, and traverses the historic tunnel before returning to the station.
