Home Cook Reveals 5-Minute Pan-Fried Toast Method to Ditch Toaster
Cook's 5-Minute Pan-Fried Toast Method Ditches Toaster

A home cook has urged people to ditch their toasters and instead use a frying pan to create what she calls the 'ultimate' toast in just five minutes. Taylor Ann Spencer, known for her TikTok cooking tips, says her method delivers a golden, crispy exterior that a standard toaster cannot match.

The Pan Method for Perfect Toast

In a viral TikTok video, Spencer explained that while a toaster is fine for a quick fix, those with a few extra minutes can 'up their game' by using a pan. She recommends starting with a full-size loaf sliced at home to control thickness – her preferred slice is half an inch.

'Oil the pan – not the bread,' Spencer advised. 'Just a little extra-virgin olive oil so that it evenly conducts the pan heat and creates that golden, crispy exterior. Hot oil sets you up for crispy, crunchy deliciousness.'

Key Steps for Success

To check if the toast is ready, Spencer suggests carefully lifting it in the pan to inspect the underside before flipping. However, she warns against peeking too early: 'If you peek too early, you will destroy your opportunity for the golden, crispy, crunchy crust.'

Once both sides are golden, the final step is seasoning. 'Finish with a little salt. I love flaky salt – it adds a nice, fun texture, but you could also do kosher or even fine sea salt if you want,' she said.

Reaction from Viewers

The cooking hack impressed many TikTok users. One commented: 'I would have never thought to do it in oil!' Another wrote: 'Tried this and it was so good. 10/10.' However, a third noted: 'By definition, it's not toast. But it does look good.'

Spencer concluded: 'So the next time you want the ultimate toast – grab a pan, not a toaster.'
