The BBC has revealed the voice cast for its annual Christmas animation, 'The Scarecrows' Wedding', based on the children's book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler. The half-hour special will air on BBC One and stream on BBC iPlayer.
The voice cast includes Rob Brydon as Reginald Rake, Jessie Buckley as Betty O'Barley, Domhnall Gleeson as Harry O'Hay, and Sophie Okonedo as the narrator. The story follows two scarecrows planning their wedding, but a smooth-talking rival threatens their big day.
Produced by Magic Light Pictures, the special is directed by Samantha Cutler and Jeroen Jaspaert. This marks the 13th adaptation of a Donaldson book for the BBC's Christmas slot, following last year's 'Tiddler', which drew 7.3 million viewers.
Julia Donaldson expressed her delight, calling the book her favourite collaboration with Scheffler. Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama, praised the partnership and promised a charming, funny adventure for viewers this Christmas.
