Adult content creator Skylar Mae, 23, says the World Cup has caused a surge in attention from men, who she claims are turned on by football. The Arizona-based influencer, who boasts over four million Instagram followers, reports a $100,000 (£74,542.50) increase in her monthly earnings during the tournament.
Superstitious Requests from Die-Hard Fans
Mae, who has been producing saucy content for five years, says fans are asking her to wear national team jerseys, mock rival countries, and even stomp on soccer icons. She explained: 'I've had people asking me to learn soccer chants while wearing soccer socks and shorts because they swear it'll help their team win, and even make sure I send the custom right before kick-off because they're convinced it'll bring them good luck.'
'The funniest requests are always from the really die-hard fans. They'll send me requests explaining exactly why I need to mention a certain player, or avoid talking about another team. You can tell they've put a lot of thought into it.'
English Fans and Their Rituals
While many fans are based in the US, Mae receives requests from around the world. 'I get loads of requests from English fans,' she added. 'I've had guys asking me to wear the same socks or underwear before every game because they're convinced it's become lucky.'
'One guy insisted I eat mashed potatoes before England played Ghana because he'd done it during their last win and didn't want to break the streak. One of the funniest messages I got was from an England fan who said he wasn't going to shave until England got knocked out, so he wanted me to film a custom telling him to keep the beard going.'
Football Passion Spills into Sexual Fantasies
Mae believes football becomes part of people's personalities from a young age, so the World Cup can take over everything. She noted that US fans tend to be more positive and 'less hating on the opposing team,' partly because the tournament is hosted in the US this year. However, she admitted the event makes many people horny. 'Absolutely it turns people on. I think that a lot of the passion that fans have for their teams spills into passion in other ways.'
'They're excited, they're celebrating, they're emotional and I definitely notice that. When all you are thinking about is soccer and the World Cup for weeks, of course it's going to become a part of your sexual fantasies.'
