Pupils across the country collected their GCSE results today, after at least two years of preparation. Many experienced anxiety entering the exam hall, but they consistently showed up and did their best.
Some pupils may feel disappointed with their grades, especially when comparing them with peers. However, Alison Maynard, Deputy Principal for Curriculum at New College Durham, offers reassuring words for those who can relate.
Deputy Principal's Message of Support
Alison Maynard said: "Today is one of those days when you really see the emotion behind the results. You see the smiles, the relief, the excitement and sometimes some disappointment too."
She added: "Whatever the result on that piece of paper, there is a young person behind it who has worked incredibly hard to get here, and we are incredibly proud of them."
Encouragement for All Pupils
Maynard continued: "For those celebrating today, enjoy it, you’ve worked hard and you deserve to feel proud of your achievements. If your results haven’t gone quite as you hoped, please remember that today is not the end of the road. It’s simply the next step... There are many different routes to achieving your goals, and your GCSE results do not define who you are or what you can go on to achieve."
