GCSE Results Day 2026: Greater Manchester Students Get Grades

Thousands of students across Greater Manchester are finding out their GCSE results today after months of hard work. On Thursday (August 20), 15 and 16-year-olds who sat their exams in May and June will learn whether they received the grades they needed for A levels, T levels, BTECs or apprenticeships.

Results Available Online and at Schools

While many students will be able to collect their results online for the first time this year, pupils are still encouraged to go to schools if they can. The results were made available to schools on Wednesday (August 19) and will be available to collect from your school from 8am. Schools across Greater Manchester have issued their own guidance on how and when students can collect results.

Grading System Explained

The grading system for GCSE results was revamped in 2017 and now uses a numbered system, replacing the traditional A* to G letter results. According to Ofqual, a grade 7 is comparable to the old grade A; a grade 4 to the old C grade; and the new grade 1 to the old grade G. Employers, universities and others who previously set entry requirements of at least a grade C would now require at least a grade 4. Students who receive a grade 3 or below in GCSE maths or English language will generally have to continue studying the subject.
