A father-to-be has taken to Reddit to express his dilemma over his wife's chosen name for their baby girl. After three years of infertility, the couple is expecting a daughter, and the wife has fallen in love with the name Story Claire. While the name holds sentimental value, the dad is unsure if it's the right choice.
Dad's Concern
The man explained that his wife has always wanted to be a mother and has been the one who struggled most with infertility. He believes she should have more say in naming their daughter, but he can't warm to the name Story. In his post, he wrote: "She LOVES the name, Story Claire. Claire was always a middle name idea after her grandma. But Story is new. She thought it is perfect since we had a story to get her here. And she's our greatest story."
He added: "I don't know how I feel about it. It feels wrong to tell her no, and it could grow on me." The dad would rather choose one of the names they discussed early in their relationship, such as Violet, Heidi, or Goldie.
Mixed Reactions
Commenters were divided. Some supported the name, with one saying: "I know a Story. She's a history professor and an all-around lovely person. I don't think it is weird at all, just uncommon." Another added: "I LOVE the name Story! If Meadow and Clover are popular enough to rank in the 200s and 500s, I don't see why Story can't also be used as a name."
Others suggested Astoria as an alternative that could be shortened to Story. However, some critics were less supportive. One wrote: "It sounds like something an influencer would name their kid to be 'unique'. The only way I'd be fine with it is if my wife were willing to allow her to go by Claire from a young age. Cute baby name, but I can't picture an adult being taken seriously with that name."
Another was blunt: "I mean, it's objectively not good. I might remind your wife that names that seem cute for a baby don't work in adulthood, and your daughter will need to live with an 'unserious' name as an adult, and could be bullied as a child. Surely the presence of your daughter is reminder of the 'story' enough."

Names that are offensive or obscene, contain numbers or symbols, are misleading (like Queen or Lord), or are impossible to pronounce are not allowed.
