Woman, 41, with 80-Year-Old Husband Expecting First Baby

Estie Goosen and her husband Anton have a 39-year age difference, but they pay no heed to public scrutiny as they prepare to welcome their first baby. Anton, who is 80, and Estie, 41, have faced years of 'nasty comments and judgement' over their relationship, yet they remain steadfast in their love.

Meeting and Falling in Love

The couple met in London in 2008 when Anton visited for a performance. Estie, then a security guard at a clothing store during her gap year, attended his show. They discovered they both had ties to Gansbaai, South Africa, and stayed in touch via Facebook. When Estie returned home, they soon fell in love and married after a nine-year relationship.

Facing Criticism

Since their marriage, gossip has circulated about Anton's much younger third wife. Estie remarked: 'As soon as I say the number, that's all people focus on. They won't see how we care for each other day by day and do good things.' She added that Anton is neither difficult nor grumpy, but rather engages in learning and has an impressive vocabulary and general knowledge.

Despite the judgment, the couple is expecting a son soon. For Anton, who already has two grown daughters, this will be his first son. Estie, a first-time mother, also cares for Anton's chronic dry eye condition, always keeping his eye drops and dark glasses handy.

Home and Preparations

They live in a nearly 140-year-old fisherman's cottage with a newly built upper floor for Anton's music studio, offering harbour views. The couple initially kept their baby news private, but Estie's bump became evident at Anton's 80th birthday party in March 2026. While guests were thrilled, social media comments were harsh, causing Estie to have a 'meltdown.' She noted, however, that they have unwavering support from friends and family who know them.

Their home is shared with two French bulldogs, Pampoentjie Pokkelpensie and Jantjie Harlekyntjie, and a Jack Russell named Tau, who have sensed the upcoming change.

Hopes for Their Son

Anton has been busy transforming their home for their son's arrival in four months. He expressed a desire to play Mozart for the baby but emphasised: 'He doesn't have to grow up to be a musician, a rugby player, or play football for Manchester United. He must just be happy, a good person, and love others.'

The couple is still deciding on a name, but Anton is certain he will raise his son with a guitar in hand, as one already awaits. He looks forward to teaching cricket and football, acknowledging his age: 'I'll probably be able to kick a ball or two in his direction. I'm still up, I'm still here, and I'm still awake. There's a beginning and an end, and everything is transient, but you must rejoice when there's new life and new hope.'
