Jack Robertson, an 18-year-old midfielder from Morrison's Academy in Crieff, has capped a remarkable year by securing strong exam results and making his first-team debut for St Johnstone against Ayr United, just three days after completing his Higher Chemistry exam.
A Year of Balance and Achievement
Robertson, who chose to stay at school for S6 rather than pursue football full-time, studied Advanced Higher Biology, Advanced Higher Physics, and Higher Chemistry while training regularly with St Johnstone's under-19 and first-team squads. He achieved an A in Advanced Higher Biology, a B in Advanced Higher Physics, and a B in Higher Chemistry, adding to his four A grades and one B from Highers the previous year.
His disciplined routine involved early training sessions, afternoon lessons, and evenings dedicated to coursework and revision. Despite the pressures of elite sport, he maintained his academic focus, a commitment that has been recognized by school staff.
Recognition and Future Prospects
Depute Rector Emma McCormick praised Robertson's dedication, stating, "Jack's exam results are a wonderful reflection of the dedication and commitment he has shown throughout his time at Morrison's Academy." She highlighted his humility and kindness, noting he has been "a brilliant example to younger pupils."
Robertson's efforts were also acknowledged by St Johnstone, who awarded him the Peter Steinle Award as the club's Under-19 Player of the Year. He first joined the club at age 10 and progressed through the academy ranks, signing his first professional contract and making his debut in May.
His achievements come as Morrison's Academy's S6 cohort recorded a 96 per cent A-C pass rate at Advanced Higher in the inaugural Qualifications Scotland examinations. Robertson now looks ahead to his next chapter at McDiarmid Park, leaving school with success both on the pitch and in the classroom.
