The incident occurred around 2:15 pm outside Annunciation Catholic Church in the city's north side, moments after families had celebrated their children's First Communion. According to Minneapolis Police Department spokesman Aaron Mercer, the shooting appears to be "targeted and not random."
Chaotic Scene Following Sacred Ceremony
Witnesses described a scene of panic and confusion as shots rang out in the church parking lot. Parishioners who had just attended the solemn religious ceremony were forced to take cover as the violence unfolded.
"We just heard 'pop, pop, pop,' and then everyone started screaming and running," one attendee told local media. "It was supposed to be a joyful day for our children, and it turned into a nightmare."
Victims Rushed to Hospital
Emergency services responded rapidly to the scene, transporting two adult victims to North Memorial Health Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Both individuals were parents who had attended their child's First Communion service.
Hospital officials confirmed both patients were in stable condition Sunday evening, though the psychological impact on the congregation, particularly the children who witnessed the violence, remains a grave concern.
