A 14-year-old pupil has been arrested following a knife incident at Haute Vallée secondary school in Jersey. The incident occurred in the school canteen at the end of lunchtime, leaving one student with a minor hand injury.
Headteacher Stuart Hughes confirmed the incident in a statement to parents, praising staff for their swift and decisive action to restrain the teenager. Police arrived shortly after and the 14-year-old was arrested. Hughes described the event as 'extremely rare' and assured parents that everyone is safe.
Police are reviewing CCTV footage of the incident. Year 7 students received additional reassurance and support in a separate assembly. The school remains open as normal, with wellbeing support available for students and staff in the coming days.
States of Jersey Police are working closely with the school and the Education Department to understand the events. Hughes expressed pride in the school community for their calm and supportive response during the incident.
