Students across the UK are receiving their GCSE results today (Thursday, August 20). Following months of dedication, revision, and countless hours of study preparing for their exams, the wait is finally over.
GCSE Grading System Changes
Exams take place at the end of year 11 for students. Over the years, there have been substantial changes to the GCSE marking system in England. From 2017, grades were reformed, and GCSEs were assessed on a 9-point scale. This system uses the numbers 9 through 1, with 9 being the highest pass grade.
GCSE stands for the General Certificate of Secondary Education. They provide an academic qualification in a particular subject like Maths, English and Science. The results can influence a student's future career path and next steps.
Impact of Results on Future Paths
Grades can determine whether a student can progress to A-levels, further education, or apprenticeships, and may even impact future university applications and career options.
But how much do you recall from your secondary school maths lessons? We've decided to put our readers through their paces with seven quiz questions.
