Israeli Airstrikes Kill 12 Palestinians in Gaza

At least 12 Palestinians were killed and several others injured across the Gaza Strip on Sunday, as the Israeli military said it carried out airstrikes in response to ceasefire violations by Hamas.

The Gaza civil defence agency reported that five people were killed and several hurt when an airstrike hit a tent sheltering displaced people in the northern city of Jabaliya. In a separate early morning strike in the southern city of Khan Younis, five more people were killed and several injured. One person was killed by Israeli shelling in Gaza City, and another by gunfire in Beit Lahia.

Hazem Qassem, a Hamas spokesperson, accused Israel of committing a new massacre against displaced Palestinians, calling it a serious breach of the ceasefire. The violence came days before the first meeting of Donald Trump's Board of Peace, which has pledged $5bn (£3.7bn) towards Gaza's reconstruction. Trump urged Hamas to disarm under his postwar plan.

Despite a US-brokered truce that entered its second phase last month, both sides have accused each other of violations. Al-Shifa and Nasser hospitals confirmed receiving at least seven bodies. Osama Abu Askar, who lost his nephew in the Jabaliya attack, told Agence France-Presse: 'Israel doesn't understand ceasefires or truces. We've been living under a truce for months and they've still targeted us.'

An Israeli military official said forces attacked in response to Hamas violations, including armed terrorists crossing the yellow line—a demarcation line agreed under the ceasefire. Israel has unilaterally moved this line deeper into Gaza, while Hamas has rejected demands to disarm. Gaza's health ministry reports at least 601 deaths since the truce began; Israel says four of its soldiers have been killed.
