Sausages Juicier by Resting After Air Fryer Cooking, Experts Reveal
Sausages Juicier by Resting After Air Fryer Cooking

Cooking sausages in an air fryer is quick, easy, and cost-effective, but a simple post-cooking step can make them even juicier and more flavourful. According to members of the Facebook group Air Fryer Cooking and chef Devan of Braised and Deglazed, allowing sausages to rest for three to five minutes before cutting into them prevents the loss of juices, resulting in a superior texture and taste.

Why Resting Sausages Matters

Chef Devan explained that resting a sausage is even more critical than resting a steak because a sausage is essentially a meat water balloon. When the casings break, most of the delicious fat and juices escape, leading to drier sausages. Allowing them to rest means the meat juices gradually cool and thicken, slowing the rate at which they exit the meat.

Simon Johnson shared in the group: "I love sausages cooked in the air fryer, but you need to leave them to sit for a while or all their juices will leak out." Leoni Stewart added: "The best way to cook sausages - I do them all the time. Just chuck them in. I cook for 12 mins on 180, turn halfway through. Always perfect. They never split. Plus, they're always juicy because I leave them to sit for three to five minutes before cutting them open."

Optimal Air Fryer Cooking Times

Group members recommended various cooking times and temperatures. Lauren Stephens said: "Best thing ever, will never cook them any other way. I've got all my friends on it too. 180 degrees for 15 mins, flip halfway, then leave for five minutes." Sharon Hart commented: "Did mine in the air fryer for the first time and loved them, won't be turning to a frying pan again. 15 minutes at 180 degrees. Fantastic. Obviously, leave them to cool slightly."

Cooking sausages in an air fryer not only saves time and reduces washing up but also saves money compared to running an oven. It is a healthier alternative to pan-frying, as little to no oil is required. Whether you prefer spicy, classic, or fruity varieties, the air fryer allows experimentation with different sausages to suit your taste.

Expert Advice on Resting Time

Chef Devan at Braised and Deglazed emphasised that it is essential to allow sausages to rest for a minimum of three minutes before cutting into them. This simple step ensures that the meat retains its moisture, preventing the sausages from becoming dry and less flavourful.
