Peak Bail Time: Brits Ditch Plans Between 4.46pm and 5pm

A new survey has pinpointed the exact time when Brits are most likely to abandon evening social plans. The 'bail window' occurs between 4.46pm and 5pm, the last 15 minutes of the standard working day, according to research by Dove.

Key Findings on Cancelling Plans

The study, which surveyed 2,050 Brits, found that 62% admit to cancelling evening plans after a tiring day. Additionally, 60% say that when the 'eugh' feeling strikes, they are likely to bail altogether. A quarter of respondents confessed to cancelling plans once a month, while one in ten do so every week.

Which Plans Are Most Likely to Be Ditched?

  • Large get-togethers are the most commonly cancelled events.
  • After-work drinks follow closely behind.
  • Plans with work colleagues are frequently skipped.
  • One in ten would even bail on plans with their partner.

The 'Stay Ready With Me' Initiative

To combat this trend, Katie Piper partnered with Dove to launch the UK's first 'Stay Ready With Me' station at Battersea Power Station. This pop-up offers a quick refresh spot to help people reconsider last-minute cancellations. The launch also introduced Dove's Whole Body Deodorant.

Katie Piper commented: "We've all had those moments when the day gets away from us and suddenly plans feel like too much. For me, confidence isn't about being perfect, it's about feeling comfortable in your own skin. Sometimes a small refresh is all it takes to feel yourself again and enjoy the things you were looking forward to."

Reasons for Bailing

More than a quarter of Brits say feeling 'unfresh' is enough to cancel plans, but over 76% would not admit it. Common excuses include 'I'm feeling tired' or 'I've come down with something'. When bailing, etiquette matters: apologising, being honest, and not leaving it to the last minute are key to managing disappointment.

The Broader Issue

The research suggests that fatigue alone does not drive this behaviour. Over a third of Brits do not feel comfortable heading straight out after a busy workday. Jennifer Blanco-Barcia, Dove Marketing Manager, said: "The late-afternoon slump is a very real feeling and our research shows how it often leads to Brits cancelling their evening plans. We welcome Brits down to our 'Stay Ready With Me' station at Battersea Power Station for the ultimate quick refresh to banish that afternoon 'eugh' feeling and beat the bail."
