Two students from South Lanarkshire College have earned top awards at the Scottish Plumbing Apprentice of the Year competition. Blake Lockhart won the renewable technologies title at the finals event in Paisley, with fellow college apprentice Aiden Docherty, of Blantyre, taking third place.
Renewable Technologies Category Highlights Net Zero Skills
The renewable technologies category at the annual SNIPEF competition reflects the growing importance of low-carbon heating technologies and the skills needed to support Scotland’s journey towards net zero, according to organisers.
Motherwell resident Blake, who works for HF Mechanical and Electrical Ltd alongside his studies, said he was “buzzing” to win. “It was a great day, mixing with everybody and having the chance to showcase my skills. I’d like to thank South Lanarkshire College for giving me the opportunity to compete, and my company HF have been so supportive in helping me develop my skills,” he added.
SNIPEF Praises Training Quality and Employer Support
SNIPEF deputy chief executive Stephanie Lowe said: “Blake’s success, alongside Aiden’s excellent third-place finish, reflects the outstanding quality of apprenticeship training taking place at South Lanarkshire College and the support provided by employers across the region. As demand grows for low-carbon heating technologies, competitions like this help showcase the skills, professionalism and innovation being demonstrated by the next generation of plumbing and heating professionals.”
