A 36-year-old woman was found submerged in a bath with a sponge blocking the plughole, an inquest has heard. Natasha Keryk died at her home in Lynwood Avenue, Darwen, on October 7, 2024.
Inquest hears cause of death
An inquest held at Blackburn Town Hall on Wednesday heard that the cause of Natasha's death was drowning, with acute alcohol intoxication recorded as a contributory factor. Natasha, who was born in Darwen, had worked as a secretary.
She was found in the bath at her home with a sponge covering the plughole.
Coroner returns narrative conclusion
Although Natasha had been experiencing "significant challenging personal issues" at the time of her death and was receiving support, it was not possible to determine her intentions, the coroner ruled.
Area Coroner Emma Mather returned a narrative conclusion and said: "Natasha Margaret Keryk died on the 7th October 2024 in her home in Darwen. Natasha was found submerged in the bath where a sponge was covering the plug and she died from drowning."
"At the time of her death she was acutely intoxicated. Natasha was experiencing significant challenging personal issues at the time of her death and was being supported by professionals. Her intentions cannot be determined."
