A 16-year-old boy who apparently took his own life after being bullied was the victim of an alleged rape, police have revealed. Karl Peart was found dead in his bed at his home in Lynemouth, Northumberland, earlier this month.
Northumbria Police confirmed that a 23-year-old man from the Sunderland area is helping officers with their inquiries into the alleged sexual assault. It is understood the rape allegation dates back to when Karl was much younger.
Karl attended Hirst High School in Ashington, which has been struck by a second tragedy. Last week, 15-year-old pupil Gemma Dimmick was found dead at her home after apparently taking tablets. She was buried next to her mother at St John's Church, Ashington, on Friday.
