A 15-year-old boy has been arrested following a shooting in Sheffield that left a 16-year-old boy in a critical condition. The incident occurred on London Road at approximately 5:15pm yesterday.
The arrested teenager is being held on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder and remains in police custody. London Road was closed between Sitwell Place and Crowther Place but has since reopened.
Local residents have expressed fear following the shooting. Dari Saleh, owner of the nearby Marmaris Turkish restaurant, told the BBC: 'Our customers, our business, you don't feel safe.'
Sheffield Superintendent Martin Simcock condemned the violence, stating: 'Gun crime and violent crime has no place in South Yorkshire, and the fact that a young boy is fighting for his life is appalling and will not be tolerated.' He urged anyone with information to come forward, emphasising that even small details could be crucial.
Police have been conducting forensic examinations in the area and are appealing for witnesses. The investigation is ongoing.
